How to Start Your Day With A Smile: Reducing Anxiety In The Morning
Everyone has morning routines they follow after a good night’s sleep to welcome a new day. For example, some enjoy stretching or going for a run, others enjoy washing their faces or taking a nice warm shower. However, some of us tend to find ourselves starting the day feeling anxious, and experiencing thoughts like: “I have so much work to get done today in the office…”. Having these thoughts early in the morning could put a damper on your day and affect your daily life. How can you prevent these thoughts? Here are some tips on how to reduce anxiety in the morning and to start your day with a smile.
1. Wake Up Early
Some people have a hard time waking up early in the morning; it is nice staying cozy in bed enjoying the crisp morning air and sunlight streaming through your window. However, waking up early in the morning gives you an opportunity to focus on the things you would like to do to start your day off. Waking up early in the morning also reduces the need for rushing, and gives you the opportunity to start the day calmly, with plenty of time to enjoy your morning routine, for instance making your bed, cooking breakfast or reading a book.
2. Mindfulness Meditation/Pray
Starting your day with a mindfulness meditation or a prayer helps calm your mind of anxiety provoking thoughts. With mindfulness meditation, you can observe your thoughts and feelings which tend to move in particular patterns. This would help you lessen your anxiety and also helps you develop inner balance.
3. Have a healthy Breakfast, Drink a Cup of Tea or Coffee
Drinking a cup of tea or coffee in the morning is common when having a healthy breakfast. But did you know that drinking a cup of coffee or tea can help you relax and keep your mind at ease? Well, if you are not fond drinking coffee in the morning, this is time for you to go buy a coffee maker or a box of tea. Take time to drink your coffee or tea, it would be more relaxing to smell the fragrance of your coffee or tea when you’re about to start your day.
4. Listen to Mood Booster Songs
It is really nice to sing along to your favorite song while driving your way to work. Listening to music would uplift your mood and could give you good vibes. But if you prefer to have a calm and relaxed playlist, you can choose a wide variety of instrumental music or maybe the sound of waves or birds chirping. This would not only help you reduce anxiety but also will help you relieve stress.
5. Play With Your Pet
Who can resist to the cuteness of a dog or the charm of a cat? Having a pet can help you reduce anxiety. You could play with them, go for a walk or jog with them or maybe just enjoy their warm company.
